Jessica Canul Diaz

Driven by a deep-rooted passion for multilingual learners, Jessica is an advocate and instructional leader committed to promoting equity, biliteracy, and culturally and linguistically responsive education. Prior to joining WIDA, she served as a Biliteracy Instructional Specialist and higher education instructor, bringing over a decade of experience supporting emergent bilingual students, educators, and systems in building inclusive, transformative learning environments.
Jessica centers a holistic, strength-based approach to instruction that honors students’ cultural and linguistic identities. Her work is grounded in current research and best practices, including biliteracy pedagogy, the Science of Reading for multilingual learners, and the integration of standards.
A proud bilingual, daughter of immigrants, and first-generation graduate, Jessica holds a Master’s in Language and Literacy and is a National Board Certified Teacher. Her work is rooted in the belief that educational systems must be reimagined to serve all students—particularly those historically marginalized. She is committed to ensuring that multilingual learners are not only academically successful but also affirmed, celebrated, and empowered throughout their educational journey.
